Somedays painting can become too methodic. I started thinking how easy it is to forget what inspired me to paint something in the first place. Having very little time before the baby awoke from his nap, I picked up the brush and started painting from the "leftovers" on my palette. Pushing paint with only color and value in mind, I ended up with one of my favorite paintings. It was fresh and full of unmixed color. It is important to let our inspiration "drive" with our skills riding "shotgun". Painting everyday allows this experience to blossom.

"Autumn Shadows" The soybeans at sunset were ready for harvest. The purple shadows were beautiful against the warm soybeans in the sun. This painting is 6"x6" oil on board.
"Red Barn at Dusk" The sun is about to slip below the horizon taking the colors with it. (The texture is due to the gessoed surface beneath the paint)

"School's In" I am so grateful that this old schoolhouse was spared from destruction. It sits adjacent to a new modern school. Built in 1886 it sits in excellent condition. When I walk by it I imagine all the school children running around in the schoolyard, while the teacher rings the school bell, so many years ago.

I loved the contrast of this white barn and the soybean fields at sunset. I had a difficult time with my digital camara trying to catch the myriad of color in the fields in this painting especially on a dark rainy day. I will try again on a sunny day.
"Sunset, Country Farmhouse" This house caught my eye across the field in rural Indiana. It looked like a country villa in Europe. This young home is probably only about a century old though. Just a youngin' although it has been through a couple of generations of farmers.

Yesterday we drove to my Grandmothers for a visit. I passed the same fields that I did as a child. Today I bring her my children. I am grateful they get to see her. I tell them many stories so they get to know her as I did.
"Cycling in the Countryside" 6" x 6" oil on masonite. What a beautiful day for biking. Cool autumn air and beautiful landscapes. I just wish they had more room on the road for a safer journey. Everytime my son heads out I say a little prayer. -it's what moms do :)
"Fall Fields" We took the kids out for a drive in our old convertable last Sunday. The air was getting chilly. I snapped picture after picture of the fields changing colors, it was like a patchwork quilt. I plan to do a few more alla prima paintings from this outing. I don't think I am ready for the winter months ahead. Summer and Fall are my favorite times of the year.
"Girl with Chickens" My little Rebekah of Sunnybrook Farm. Such a little beanpole. She had fun chasing the chickens back into the barn for her aunt.6"x6" oil on primed masonite.
